The Top Five Universities In the Philippines

Ranking the 5 best Universities in the Philippines is difficult because it can be very subjective. The universities in my list offer almost the same level of quality education but under different environments. I understand many of the readers might disagree with what they might perceive as my attempt at ranking these universities. So let me preempt your disgruntle by saying that I am not listing them by rank but rather alphabetically.

This is a Jesuit run private institution which is located in Katipunan, Quezon City. The school strives to impart to its students not only the necessary academic and practical skills that are needed to advance and excel in society, but also the desire to work towards the greater social and national good. The phrases "lux in domino,"(light in the lord) and "men and women for others" imbibe the spirit that the school desires for its graduates. This university is also one of the only two universities granted by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU)with the highest level of accreditation which is level IV.

This private school is also run by a religious order, the Lasallian brothers, and is located along Taft Avenue in Metro Manila. The school derives its inspiration from the works of Saint John Baptist de La Salle and seeks to develop graduates who are able to merge scholastic pursuits with their Christian ideals. It aims to develop competent scholars, entrepreneurs, leaders and professionals who will strive to effect change in the country and work towards the betterment of the nation. This university is also the first school to be awarded with a level IV accreditation by the PAASCU.

This is a state owned university located in Diliman, Quezon City. It is also the main campus of the University of the Philippines System. It is widely renowned to be THE school for the masses, providing quality education on par with the top private universities but at a price which is much lower. It is very famous for being the home of many liberal thinkers who compose not just the staff but many of the school's students as well. The campus is the biggest in Manila and has its own "jeepney" system to help students and passersby get from one point to another.

This is likewise a state run university that is one of the 6 constituent universities of the University of the Philippines system.  It originally started as a college which was focused on agrarian learning but eventually developed into a leading university as time passed. It focuses on, but is not limited to, basic and applied science and boasts of many awards in these fields of study.

This university which is the oldest in Asia and is also known as THE PONTIFICAL and Catholic University of the Philippines and is run by the Dominican order. It is Located in Espana St., Sampaloc Manila and it was originally a college set up to prepare young men for priesthood but eventually became a fully fledged university over time. the school aims to develop students who will eventually become compassionate individuals committed to, according to the schools mission, "the service of the Church, the nation, and the global community."
